Williams
Al Wakrah (D1) strengthened their roster with addition of 30-year old American guard Larry Williams (191-88kg-86, college: Ark.-Pine Bluff). In his first game he scored 23 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and 4 assists helping his new team beat Al Shamal 78-69. He played most recently at MAS Fes in Moroccan D1 league and also at Stade Naubelin in Tunisian League. Williams' team made it to the Tunisian Final Four.
He received Advocate/Boag NWBU Player of the Year award back in 2012.
Williams is a very experienced player. Thanks to his pro career he managed to play on four different continents (Asia, Australia, Africa and of course North America) in five different countries. Williams has played previously professionally also in Australia (Chargers, Darwin Eagles and Burnie Tigers), Lebanon (Feytroun), Saudi Arabia (Al Maseerah) and Morocco (Essaouira and RSB Berkane).
He attended University of Arkansas-Pine Bluff until 2008 and it will be his ninth season in pro basketball.
The scouts decsribe him following way: A combo guard with a wide range of skills. Creates open shots for his teammates every possession. Excellent penetrator and finisher looks to set up teammates and can get any shot he wants. Very good mid-range and three point shooter. Strong, physical guard with good athleticism can play above the rim. Ball hawking defender who likes to apply full court pressure and takes advantage of every offensive misstep by his opponent.
