After more than 5 months of rest, the basket ball players will get back on court for their utmost pleasure as the season 2005 will now begin on Saturday 23rd July. The 1st division league will this year consists of 13 teams who will play a home/away league and the four best teams will make the playoffs where the 1st team in the regular season will play against the 4th team and the 2nd team will play the 3rd team. The  winners will play the final where the winner will be the champion of Mauritius.

Among the favourites this year, you have of course the Real of Port - Louis, the current champion with their leading scorer, Ghislain Fanny, in great shape after having won the MVP of the last edition of the cccoi tournament. They also have an american in their team this year, jason howie, who plays as point guard and the malagasy player, Saotra who made a good impression last year in league.

Another team that is expected to make a good performance this year is the Mahebourg Flippers, who have kept improving this past year and lose by only 4 points in this year Republic Cup final against the Real. Even though there has been no new recruitment this year for the team, they do have the talents to be among the top of the league.

The USBBRH and CDB Les salines are also two teams that is expected to shine this year. For the USBBRH, the team is much stronger this year having made a strong recruitment this year with players from the Magics and all this under the coaching ability of Jean - Marie Bhugeerathee. They do also have the intention to recruit to players from abroad.

This year league is much more interesting than ever and the big question is, will the Real be again champion this year for the 8th time or will a team break this tradition. Keep connected to africa basket and be aware of the latest news in the basket - ball world of Mauritius.
