Amara Sy selected the top Malian playing abroad in last week's games - May 11, 2018

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Mali players, who play currently abroad.


Amara Sy
Amara Sy
   #1. This week's number one is an experienced former international forward Amara Sy (202-81, agency: BeoBasket, currently plays in France). He could not help Monaco (24-8) in their last game. Despite Sy's good performance the league leader Monaco was edged 86-85 at home by the one of league's weakest teams (#17) Pau-Lacq-Orthez. He scored 10 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 17 minutes on the court. It was Monaco's first loss after six consecutive victories. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be critical. Sy has relatively good stats this year: 10.7ppg, 3.4rpg, 1.3apg, 2FGP: 63.5%(73-115), 3FGP: 25.0% and FT: 86.5% in 19 games he played so far. He has a dual citizenship: Mali and French. Sy played for the Mali senior national team seven years ago.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Nianta Diarra (205-93, agency: Two Points, currently plays in France). Diarra was not able to help Olympique Antibes in their game against SIG Strasbourg (22-10) in the French ProA. He scored 9 points in 20 minutes. But Olympique Antibes was badly defeated 93-77 on the road by the second-ranked SIG Strasbourg. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game is very crucial. This year Diarra averages: 5.5ppg, 4.9rpg, 2FGP: 71.4%(60-84), 3FGP: 26.4% and FT: 41.2% in 32 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Mali and French. Diarra is in the roster of the Mali senior national team.

   #3. The Mali player who performed third best last week abroad was former international forward Namory Boundy (202-89, currently plays in France). He contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider CFBB (1-33) 90-71 in the French NM1 (third division) in Saturday night's game. Boundy recorded 6 points, 5 rebounds and 2 blocks. SO Maritime Boulogne (17-17) is placed ninth in the NM1. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. So now every game will be important. It's Boundy's first season with the team. His overall stats this year are: 5.1ppg, 2.4rpg, 1.6spg, 3FGP: 32.8% and FT: 71.0%. Similarly like Diarra and Sy above Boundy has both Mali and French nationalities. He played for the Mali national team three years ago.

   #4. Forward Cheick Soumaoro (204-90, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for one of league's weakest teams Saint-Quentin (24-10) in their game against Rueil (24-10) in the French NM1 (third division). Soumaoro recorded 8 points and grabbed 4 rebounds in 21 minutes. Saint-Quentin lost 59-68 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#3) Rueil. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. This year Soumaoro's overall stats are: 7.0ppg and 4.5rpg in 19 games. He is also Mali national team player.

   #5. International swingman Sourata Cisse (196-86, currently plays in France) couldn't help Brissac Anjou (18-16) in their last game. Despite Cisse's very good performance Brissac Anjou lost 81-87 in Orchies to the much lower-ranked (#13) Orchesien BC. He was the top scorer with 24 points. Cisse also added 6 rebounds and 4 assists in 35 minutes. They ended the series of six consecutive victories. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Cisse has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 16.9ppg, 2.7rpg and 2.9apg in 32 games. Cisse also holds two passports: Mali and French. Despite he played previously for the French U20 national team, Cisse is currently in the Mali national team roster.

   #6. Point guard Ibrahim Saounera (179-87, currently plays in France) couldn't help Vendee Challans (17-17) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his good performance Vendee Challans was defeated 63-54 in Saint Vallier by the second-ranked Saint Vallier. Saounera was the top scorer with 11 points. He also added 4 passes. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. This season Saounera has relatively solid stats: 11.6ppg, 2.8rpg, 5.6apg and 1.3spg. He is a former international player as he played for the Mali senior team three years ago.

   #7. Former international guard Ludovic Chelle (183-83, currently plays in France) contributed to Caen's victory against the closely-ranked JA Vichy (14-18) 83-76 in the French ProB (second division) on Friday night. Chelle recorded 9 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 23 minutes. Caen Basket Calvados (12-20) is placed 13th in the ProB. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. This year Chelle's total stats are: 8.5ppg, 1.4rpg and 2.0apg in 22 games. Despite he played previously for the French U20 national team, Chelle is currently in the Mali national team roster.

   #8. Center Drissa Ballo (208-95, currently plays in France) managed to help ADA Blois Basket 41 to win against the seventh-ranked Sluc Nancy (19-13) 64-57 in the French ProB (second division) in Tuesday night's game. He scored only 3 points. ADA Blois Basket 41 (26-6) is placed first in the ProB. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Ballo has averaged so far 3.5ppg and 2.7rpg. He plays currently for the Mali national team.

Bandja Sy (204-F-90, agency: BeoBasket, college: N.Mexico St., currently plays in Serbia) contributed to an easy victory against the third-ranked Dynamic BG (4-4) 87-71 in a derby game in the Serbian KLS last Thursday. He scored 10 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. It was the game of the round between two top 3 ranked teams in Group B. BC Partizan NiS Beograd (7-1) is placed second. There are only two games left until the end of the Second Stage. So now every game will be critical. This season Sy averages: 7.8ppg, 3.3rpg, 2.5apg and 1.4spg. He has a dual citizenship: Mali and French.

   #2. Nouhoum Bocoum (208-F/C-94, college: Arkansas St., currently plays in Spain) was the major contributor in a CB Guadalajara's victory against the 15th-ranked Casvi (9-21) crushing them 109-77 in the Spanish EBA (fourth division) on Saturday night. Bocoum scored 19 points; quite an impressive performance considering it's only his second season in pro basketball. Lujisa Guadalajara Basket (21-9) is placed fifth in Group B. It was his team's seventh consecutive victory in a row. The Regular Season already ended. This season Bocoum has relatively solid stats: 14.0ppg and 5.8rpg. He is another player who holds two passports: Mali and American.

   #3. Ibrahima Sidibe (180-PG-95, currently plays in France) managed to help Caen Basket Calvados in a victory against the eighth-ranked SPO Rouen (16-16) 99-93 in the French ProB (second division) last Tuesday. Sidibe scored 5 points in 13 minutes. Caen Basket Calvados (12-20) is placed 13th in the ProB. There are only two games left until the end of the Regular Season. Sidibe has averaged so far 4.4ppg, 1.2rpg and 1.8apg in 29 games he played so far. He has both Mali and French nationalities.

  



USFAS takes the leadership position - 2 days ago
USFAS took the leadership position in the League as beating As Sigui 79-66. They improved to a 10-1 record, while the opponents dropped at 4-7. Stade is second with an 8-2 record after a win over Real 70-61. As Police is third with a 7-3 record beating USM 89-44. The latter dropped at 1-10 record on the 8th place.   [read more]

USFAS and Stade improved at 7-1 records on top of Ligue 1 Masculine. USFAS demolished USM 120-68 at the Palais des sport Salamata Maiga. Stade meanwhile overcame AS Sigui 82-54. In another game CRB beat Jeanne D'arc 50-47. CRB improved to a 3-5 record, while Jeanne D'arc dropped at 2-6. Real and As Police share the 3-4 places with the same 5-3 records.   [read more]
