We bring you last week's top performances from Malians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level.

   #1. This week's number one is former international swingman Sourata Cisse (196-86, currently plays in France). He could not help Orchesien BC (11-9) in their last game. Despite Cisse's very good performance Orchesien BC was edged 77-75 on the road by the higher-ranked (#3) Rueil. He was the second best scorer with 16 points. Cisse also added 4 passes in 25 minutes on the court. It's Cisse's first season with the team. He has relatively good stats this year: 13.1ppg, 4.0rpg, 1.7apg, 2FGP: 53.2%, 3FGP: 44.3% and FT: 75.5% in 20 games he played so far. Cisse has a dual citizenship: Mali and French. Despite he played previously for the French U20 national team, Cisse played also for the Mali national team in 2015.

   #2. Second place goes to former international forward Mohamed Bah (206, currently plays college basketball in the States). He contributed to a 1-point Drexel's victory against the Hofstra University (0-1) 81-80 in the NCAA on Thursday night. Bah scored 6 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 28 minutes. The Drexel University has not so impressive 1-5 conference record this season. Bah has been at the team for four years. This year he averages: 2.8ppg, 2.6rpg, 2FGP: 64.3%(18-28) and FT: 45.0% in 16 games. Bah played for the Mali national team in 2015.

   #3. The Mali player who performed third best last week abroad was former U18 international forward Sagaba Konate (203-97, currently studies in the States). He managed to help West Virginia University to win against the Iowa State University (3-3) 85-72 in the NCAA in Tuesday night's game. Konate scored only 4 points, grabbed 4 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The West Virginia University has 4-1 conference record this season. It was his team's eighth consecutive victory in a row. Konate's overall stats this season are: 4.9ppg, 3.0rpg, 1.5bpg, 2FGP: 56.4%(44-78) and FT: 59.4%. He played for the Mali U18 national team three years ago.

   #4. Point guard Ibrahim Saounera (179-87, currently plays in France) led Vendee Challans to a 2-point victory over one of league's weakest teams Lorient (7-13) 84-82 in the French NM1 (third division) last Saturday. Saounera was MVP of the game. He scored 20 points, grabbed 5 rebounds and dished 5 assists in 36 minutes. Vendee Challans Basket (8-12) is placed 14th in the NM1. This year Saounera has relatively solid stats: 11.9ppg, 3.2rpg, 3.9apg and 1.4spg in 20 games. He is another player who holds two passports: Mali and French. Saounera used to play for the Mali national team back in 2015.

   #5. An experienced former international point guard Ludovic Chelle (183-83, currently plays in France) was the major contributor in Caen's victory against the ninth-ranked Lourdes-Tarbes (10-10) 85-76 in the French NM1 (third division) on Friday night. He scored 14 points and grabbed 6 rebounds. Caen Basket Calvados (14-6) is placed fourth in the NM1. It was his team's fifth consecutive victory in a row. Chelle's overall stats this season are: 8.9ppg, 2.6rpg and 2.0apg. He has both Mali and French nationalities. Despite Chelle played previously for the French U20 national team, he is currently in the Mali national team roster.

The list of other players, who all have Mali passport but never been selected to any of Mali national teams:

   #1. Cheickna Dembele (211-F-96, currently plays college basketball in the States), who plays in the NCAA could not help the UNLV (2-3) to beat the San Jose State University (1-0). He scored 6 points, grabbed 7 rebounds and made 2 blocks. The UNLV were defeated 76-72 at home by the State University. This season Dembele averages: 3.9ppg, 4.3rpg and 1.4bpg.

   #2. Salif Boudie (206-F, currently studies in the States) managed to help Arkansas State University in a victory against the University of Louisiana at Monroe (2-6) 73-63 in the NCAA in Saturday night's game. Boudie scored only 3 points in 4 minutes on the court. The Arkansas State University has 3-1 conference record this season. This year Boudie's overall stats are: 2.8ppg and 2.0rpg in 20 games he played so far.

   #3. Kassoum Yakwe (201-F, is currently at the American university) led St.John's to a victory against the Marquette University (3-2) 86-72 in the NCAA last Wednesday. He scored 14 points, had 6 rebounds and made 3 blocks. The St.John's University has 3-4 conference record this season. It was his team's third consecutive victory in a row. Yakwe's overall stats this season are: 4.1ppg, 3.4rpg and 2.2bpg.

   #4. Lassana Konate (196-F, currently plays in NAIA) was not able to help the Point Park University (0-0) in their game against the Alice Lloyd College (1-1) in the KIAC. He cannot count Saturday's game as one of the best ones. Konate recorded only 2 points in 10 minutes. The Point Park University (#4) lost 62-72 on the road to the Alice Lloyd College. This year Konate's overall stats are: 4.1ppg, 3.4rpg and 2.2bpg in 24 games.

Here is the weekly review of the top performing Mali players, who play currently abroad. This week's number one is former U16 international power forward Cheick Diallo (206-96). He could not help the New Orleans Pelicans (34-48) in their last game. Despite Diallo's very good performance the New Orleans Pelicans (34-48) lost 96-108 on the road to the Los Angeles Lakers.    [read more]

Senegal edges Mali in overtime, both advance to FIBA AfroBasket - 29 days ago
Senegal overcame Mali 79-72 in overtime, as both teams advanced to FIBA AfroBasket. Senegal grabbed a 17-16 lead at the end of the first period and added a 19-15 rally in the second frame. Mali scored 17 points in the third as well as the last stanzas to tie the game after four periods. In overtime Senegal needed a 14-7 surge to win the game.
