Amara Sy
AS Monaco Basket (ProA) re-signed 35-year old former Mali international forward Amara Sy (202-81, agency: Comsport). He has a double citizenship as he also holds French passport. Sy played there last season. In 40 ProA games he recorded 8.3ppg, 4.0rpg and 1.5apg. He helped them to win the cup and make to league semifinals.
The previous (14-15) season Sy played at ASVEL Lyon-Villeurbanne Basket. The team played in three different competitions (!!!) that year, and he had a chance to explore basketball on different levels. In 36 ProA games he averaged 8.4ppg, 5.4rpg and 1.8apg in 2014-15 season. Sy also played 3 games in Euroleague where he averaged 14.3ppg, 4.7rpg and 1.7apg in 2014-15 season. He also played 10 games in Eurocup where he averaged 9.7ppg, 4.2rpg and 1.4apg in 2014-15 season.
In 2009 Bakersfield Jam selected him as fourth overall pick in D-League draft.
Among other achievements he received Eurobasket.com All-French ProA Honorable Mention award in 2014. Sy also represented Mali at the African Championships in Libya seven years ago. His stats at that event were 9 games: 15.6ppg, 7.2rpg, 3.4apg, 1.1spg, FGP: 59.7%, 3PT: 31.3%, FT: 83.7%.
Sy has played also professionally in Greece (AEK Athens), Spain (UCAM Murcia) and France (Le Mans and Entente Orleans 45).
He is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Monaco.
Sy's game is described as: A forward with a 7-5 wingspan; has great potential, is athletic and has a soft touch;.
