Inter-Cities: Mombasa pip Kisumu in opener - Jul 20, 2016

In the first game of the Inter Cities Kenyan edition 2016 tournament Mombasa City rallied to beat Kisumu City 63-62 in a close encounter at the Nyayo gymnasium Tuesday night. Mombasa won the first quarter 15-10 and led 31-27 at the half time break. Moses Wanjara sparked a Kisumu 7-0 run in the third to win the quarter 18-15 and it was a one point game 45-46 going into the last quarter. With Mombasa leading by two with less four seconds to go, Lewis Muya (188-G-82) went to the line but missed the second free throw that saw Mombasa win. Ariel Okall led all scorers with 17 points and added Evans Leting 10 for the winners. Moses Wanjara had 12 points for Kisumu.

Blazers on Saturday qualified for the men's Kenya Basketball Federation Division Two play-offs semi-final after battling from behind to register a 56-50 win over MKU Thika in Game Two at Strathmore University, Madaraka. 5 STELLE SAM Basket Massagno Lugano (SBL) landed 26-year old Kenyan forward Tylor Ongwae (199-93kg-91, college: La-Monroe). He played in the summer at Taranaki Mountainairs in New Zealand NBL league. Ongwae managed to play in four leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 18 NBL games he averaged impressive 18.0ppg, 5.7rpg, 2.4apg and 1.8spg (in top 3).
