Defending men's Kenya Basketball Federation Premier League champions Ulinzi Warriors will be seeking a crucial win as they confront Blades at Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium Saturday from 4.30pm. Twenty-four first leg matches are lined up in Nairobi, Nakuru and Eldoret Saturday and Sunday as teams battle hard to secure the four top positions that will qualify them for the post-season play-offs. Ulinzi Warriors recovered to rock USIU-A Tigers 69-66 in their last assignment after losing 68-65 to Mombasa-based Kenya Ports Authority at their back yard. Ulinzi Warriors head coach William Balozi will heavily rely on towering Richard Osano (198-F/C-80), Erick Mutoro, Victor Odendo (189-G/F-80) and William Ochieng to maintain their winning streak. Victory for the soldiers will enhance their chances of scooping a play-off slot. Blades, on the other hand, rocked KCA-U 70-41 recently and coach Tony Ochieng is confident that evergreen Peter Shilton and Emmanuel Soja will threaten the soldiers good record. Tomorrow at the same venue, Blades, who narrowly lost 84-80 to Co-op Bank after leading 45-36 at half-time, have another tough fixture against on-form Brian Obimbo's Equity Bank.
In another top men's Premier League match, Co-op Bank, led by Titus Musembi, Allan Ouma and James Mwangi, will start as favourites to win against inexperienced newcomers Trailblazers. The bankers dismissed USIU-A Tigers 92-86 in their last match and are expected to use their long experience to grab two easy points. Trailblazers are facing stiff opposition after their promotion to the top competition this year. Their dependable players Lenson Kisia and Ishmael Nyamache should be prepared to stretch their muscles against the athletic Co-operative Bank.
