Equity Bank Cage Lions to Go Top of Standings - May 11, 2016

Equity Bank moved to the top of the men's basketball Premier League standings after bagging two morale- boosting first leg points at Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium. On Sunday, the bankers rallied from behind to defeat Lions 73-62 in an explosive tie. Consequently, Equity Bank climbed to the top with 14 points. The bankers led 17-12 in the first quarter, but let down their guard and allowed the Lions to claw back 19-11 in the second quarter, followed by another 31-28 loss at the breather. Equity have, so far, played eight matches, won six and lost two. Lions, who harvested three points from their two tight outings, are placed fifth on the standings with nine points from two wins and five losses. Lions saw Victor Ochieng score a decisive basket as they escaped with a narrow 53-51 victory over newly promoted Trailblazers on Saturday. Trailblazer's Ishmael Nyamache had thrown the game wide open when he locked the scores 51-51 with 46 seconds to go. Defending champions Ulinzi Warriors dropped to the second spot with 13 points. The soldiers, who won the championship last year after waiting for 23 years, have won five matches and lost two.

Umoja are 2016 Division 1 Champions in Kenya.In the Final series they overcame Zetech Titans 3-2. In Game 5 Umoja grabbed a 51-48 win at the Nyayo Gymnasium. The win means both teams will earn a place in the premier league in the 2017 season.
