Derrick
Byars
Delaware 87ers signed 33-year old Ivorian swingman Derrick Byars (201-100kg-84, college: Vanderbilt, agency: Inception Sports). He started the season at Vichy Clermont in French ProB. In 16 games he had 11.9ppg, 4.5rpg, 1.8apg and 1.0spg this season. The last summer Byars played at Santeros in Puerto Rican BSN where in 6 games he recorded very impressive stats: 15.3ppg, 7.3rpg and 2.5apg.
In 2007 he was drafted by Portland Trail Blazers (NBA) in second round (42nd overall). The former Vanderbilt University staris in his tenth season in pro basketball.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others his team won German Bundesliga Cup in 2013. Byars was also voted Gatorade All-D-League Honorable Mention back in 2011.
He is quite experienced player. Byars has played in ten different countries on three different continents (Europe, Latin America and of course North America). He has played previously professionally in Belgium (Belfius Mons Hainaut), Greece, Israel (Maccabi Rishon), Spain (Sevilla), Venezuela (Guaiqueries), NBA (Miami Heat, San Antonio Spurs and Memphis Grizzlies), Puerto Rico (Caciques), Argentina (Libertad Sunchales), D-League (Northern Arizona Suns) and Russia (Krasny Oktyabr).
Byars could be described: (by Matthew Maurer for NBADraft.net in 2007)
Complete player with good lateral quickness and athleticism. Defensively Byars does a great job staying in front of his man. Fundamentally there are few guards in the draft that have his array of tools. Plays the game with a good level of moxie and toughness. Excellent ball handler who has played point guard several times during his collegiate career
Shot selection at times can be questionable. Would benefit his game if he utilized the mid-range shot more
