Abidjan Ramblers are top on the standings in the African Basketball League (ABL) following their fair performance in their native country in last weekend's Abidjan Basketball Challenge where four of the franchise teams in the ABL competed against each other. Though the Ramblers lost 72-84 to Lagos Islanders in a highly entertaining clash, the victory earlier recorded against the Stallions who they beat 60-52 ensured that they still hold the advantage at the top of the log, having posted seven wins from nine games. John Mckinley was the main man for Ramblers, scoring a massive 21 points for his team and effectively condemning the Lagos-bank team to their eighth-straight defeat in the current campaign. The result will definitely bring more worries for Stallions' Coach Ayo Ayodele Bakare whose side also lost 72-66 to Izobe in their other game in Abidjan. Despite results not going the way of his team, Coach Ayodele Bakare maintains that he has a good team, adding that they would "soon" get past their rough patch. At the moment, Lagos Islanders are second on the log with six wins from nine games while Lagos Warriors with three wins from seven games are third on the ABL table. The Chief Executive Officer of ABL, Ugo Udezue, said the road trip would continue through the cities of Libreville and Dakar. "The games are not for Lagos and Abidjan alone, the tours will also cover Dakar and Libreville this summer," he said. The games will return to Abidjan in a fortnight with the Dodan Warriors and Dakar Rapids. But before then the league matches for the weekend will continue at Landmark Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos. Courtesy of: premiumtimesng.com
