African Basketball League - Cote d'Ivoire's Ramblers Keep Top Spot After Abdijan Challenge - May 18, 2016

Abidjan Ramblers are top on the standings in the African Basketball League (ABL) following their fair performance in their native country in last weekend's Abidjan Basketball Challenge where four of the franchise teams in the ABL competed against each other. Though the Ramblers lost 72-84 to Lagos Islanders in a highly entertaining clash, the victory earlier recorded against the Stallions who they beat 60-52 ensured that they still hold the advantage at the top of the log, having posted seven wins from nine games. John Mckinley was the main man for Ramblers, scoring a massive 21 points for his team and effectively condemning the Lagos-bank team to their eighth-straight defeat in the current campaign. The result will definitely bring more worries for Stallions' Coach Ayo Ayodele Bakare whose side also lost 72-66 to Izobe in their other game in Abidjan. Despite results not going the way of his team, Coach Ayodele Bakare maintains that he has a good team, adding that they would "soon" get past their rough patch. At the moment, Lagos Islanders are second on the log with six wins from nine games while Lagos Warriors with three wins from seven games are third on the ABL table. The Chief Executive Officer of ABL, Ugo Udezue, said the road trip would continue through the cities of Libreville and Dakar. "The games are not for Lagos and Abidjan alone, the tours will also cover Dakar and Libreville this summer," he said. The games will return to Abidjan in a fortnight with the Dodan Warriors and Dakar Rapids. But before then the league matches for the weekend will continue at Landmark Centre in Victoria Island, Lagos.

D'Tigers Narrowly escapes Cote D'Ivoire, 78-77 - 12 days ago
Defending champions of the FIBA Afrobasket for Men made their presence known with the victory over Cote D'Ivoire 78-77, but not with a serious fight. An expected-unexpected result it turned out to be, with the notable change of 95% percent of players who brought the championship trophy to Nigeria. Only captain of the team Ikechukwu Diogu (204-C/F-83, college: Arizona St.) returned to represent his country, leaving the former players absent and replaced with new ones. Current head coach of...   [read more]

Plasencia lands Seydou Aboubacar - 29 days ago
LEB Silver newcomer Plasencia Extremadura tabbed 23-year old Ivorian center Seydou Aboubacar (207-94). He is not a newcomer in Spanish League as he played most recently at Estudiantes Lugo Leyma Natura in the EBA. In 19 games he averaged 13.6ppg and 8.5rpg last season. The previous (15-16) season Aboubacar played at RETAbet (Liga Endesa) where in only one game he had just 2 points and 4 rebounds. He also played 1 game in Eurocup, but he did not score anything. The other team Aboubacar pla...   [read more]
