This year's Accra Basketball League (ABL) is set to tip off on March 9 at the Lebanon House Court in Tudu, Accra at 17:00 GMT with defending champions Braves of Customs taking on home team Tudu Galaxy.

The opening game precedes a tie involving Ghana Navy and University of Ghana (UG). Five teams have registered to compete this season with Braves leading the field.

The Men's Division takes off 48 hours later however, with games between DC Dynamics and Tudu Magic and Ghana Navy and debutant Adenta Leopards set to take place. Leopards gained promotion from the lower division after an unbeaten run in Division II.

The roster in the division is down to seven from last year's ten following the failure of some teams including Teshie Rangers and Reformers of Prisons to meet the registration deadline; Rangers did complete the process but has demoted to Division II for failing to do so in time.

League representatives have announced the league's first and second rounds will be played in honor of fallen heroes Matthias Ocloo and Benjamin Baafi who both died recently. Ocloo is a lead figure in the league's formation and Baafi served as the league's administrator prior to his death.
