The 2017 Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship start has been moved from February 17 to 24 after organizers Rite Sports Limited cancelled the original date for commencing the competition.

As a result of the move, teams in Zone B will tipoff the competition this year. The zone contains host Koforidua Technical University, All Nations University College, KAAF University College and Valley View University.

With exception of Valley View, none of the teams in the zone has competed in the tournament prior to this year's edition; Valley View made it to the quarter finals in last year's Championship.

Teams in Zone A were set to play before the demise of Championship supervisor Matthias Ocloo on Thursday February 16, forced organizers to call off the games to pay respect to the veteran referee and manager.

Ocloo's death has been described as an 'icon' by Ghana Basketball Association Chairman David Addo Ashong Ghana's Female National Team and others including St. Mary's Senior High School and University of Ghana (UG); UG are the reigning UPAC Champions.

He was Acting Chairman of Ghana's Basketball Referees Association before he passed away.
