Right after Ghana celebrates its 60th Independence Day, the 2017 Accra Basketball League season tips off on March 9 in the Women's Division due to be followed by the first set of games in the Men's Division I a day later.

The new season will have two new entrants Adenta Leopards and Tema Youth's Junior side after both teams qualified from the men's second tier. However, with Tema Youth's Senior side firmly fixed on the ten team roster in the division, management is yet to take an official stance on the lingering issue.

The competition's dates were announced after a general meeting was held by league management and club representatives at the Lebanon House forecourt. Registration of players for the new season has begun and ends on February 24.

Braves of Customs male and female teams are defending champions in the Men's and Women's Divisions respectively. Tema Youth placed second after falling to Braves Male side in last year's final game.

However, neither team represented Ghana at the FIBA Zone Three Africa Championship in Togo. Ghana Air Force placed second in the Women's Division behind Braves.
