Former students of Opoku Ware School have rewarded the school's basketball team after winning the Sprite Ball Championship a few days ago. The team beat Mfantsipim School 27-25 in the boys division final game at the El Wak Stadium to win the Championship's tenth anniversary edition.

In the process, Opoku Ware became the first school from Ghana's Ashanti Region to triumph in the boys division. To reward the team for its outstanding display in the tournament, past students have rewarded all 12 players 500 Ghana Cedis each.

Coach Alexander Obeng Takyi and Physical Education Head Charles Darkwa will receive similar financial rewards for leading the side to win its maiden trophy in the most coveted high school tournament in the West African nation.

The school has 10,000 Ghana Cedis in its kitty as prize money for emerging Champions in the tournament. Opoku Ware led 19-9 in the first half with Shooting Guard Emmanuel Agyapong draining two quick three point shots.

However, Mfantsipim rallied in the second half to take the lead before Opoku Ware Center Harris Amuzu sealed victory for the Kumasi side with a three point play. Wesley Girls High School won the girls division on its return from a four year absence from the Championship.
