Regional qualifiers for Ghana's biggest high school basketball tournament-Sprite Ball Championship- is set to take place in the country's Central regional capital, Cape-Coast on November 29 as second cycle educational institutions battle for spots in the main championship.

The region is home to the reigning champions of the competition in both male and female divisions after St. Augustine's College and Aggrey Memorial Mount Zion School triumphed in the 2016 edition respectively.

However, a slew of top performing schools will be in the battle for places with the likes of four time winners Mfantsipim School and two-time bronze medalist Mfantsiman Girls Senior High School all in the mix.

The region is the most successful in the tournament as it has produced nine championships in the competition's ten year history.

In the Ashanti Region, Opoku Ware beat Prempeh College 27-26 in the final game to emerge champions in the boys division as Kumasi Girls Senior High School did same in the girls division to earn a 9-3 win over defending champions T.I. Ahmadiyya Senior High School. All four schools will represent the region at the main championship scheduled in January, 2017 in Accra.
