University of Ghana (UG) has made history in the Universities, Polytechnics and Colleges (UPAC) Basketball Championship by winning the competition for an unprecedented third time.
The team piled on in the history books by becoming the first team to win three straight UPAC titles adding the 2018 trophy to the 2016 and 2017 titles. UG managed to clinch the enviable fleet of achievements by beating Accra Technical University (ATU) 41-36.
Backcourt mates Kwame Opoku and Emmanuel Wolff were the main men responsible for bringing UG out of a first half 20-27 deficit; the Guards shard the Most Valuable Player of the Tournament Awards.
Wolff's four point play early in the third quarter proved vital to get UG tied on 31 points heading to the final quarter. A series of blocks from either side were made before Wolff scored with ATU's Suleman Abubakar and UG's Gracefield Attoh trading blocks.
Opoku's time to do damage on ATU came in the fourth quarter when he stirred the crowd into a frenzy with a beautiful change of hands in midair for a layup and added a jump shot to put away a deflated ATU side.
The win is UG's second over ATU in the UPAC Final; the two sides squared off in the 2016 Final game. University of Education-Winneba (UEW) clinched bronze courtesy a 46-35 win over Takoradi Technical University.
