Gambia: Secondary Schools Lineup for SAC Basketball Tourney

Nanama Keita

29 November 2010

At least thirteen senior secondary schools have confirmed their participation in the 2010 edition of the annual basketball competition organized by the Scholar Athletes for Change (SAC) in cooperation with the Gambia Secondary Schools Sports Association (GSSSA).

Ten schools from the Greater Banjul Area including Saint Augustine and Muslim Senior Secondary Schools, two schools from Upper River Region and one from North Bank Region will participate in the upcoming event, which will start with a knockout format before a league format is introduced to determine the semi-finalists.

Schools within the Greater Banjul Area will face off each other in a knock-out format before the five qualifying teams will progress to the second round where they will be joined by Bansang and Nasir Ahmadiya from URR and NBR representatives Essau Senior Secondary School who will all earn automatic qualification to the second stage.

The second round matches, which start on December 18 and run until December 22, 2010, will be in a league format with all matches scheduled to take place at the Manneh Sillah Basketball Court in Banjul.

The inclusion of the regional teams in this year's event is part of SAC's efforts to extend this competition to teams from other parts of the country as way of improving team values and also creating the platform to educate the general population on developing proper nutrition habits and the importance of sports and exercise in reducing the mortality rate.

K-State adds needed size with Mount St. Mary's transfer Mawdo Sallah - 2 months ago
Mount St. Mary's basketball coach Jamion Christian was thrilled to hear Mawdo Sallah (6'9''-F-94) committed to Kansas State on Monday.
