It is a strange story to say the least, but Yusupha Mboge of Banjul Gambia maybe the best Gambian player in the country right now. And, by player I mean that his game transfers better to the US. With the majority of the African players, the same issue arises when it comes to development " a lack of feel for the game". You see it over and over in the US. African kids that pass the look test, but just do not understand the game. Hence, there are very few that really make a big splash. Gambia is no exception. Many players have gotten scholarships to the US and have done marginal at best. The best ones that I can think of in the past few years are Bojang and Pierre Jallow. These two are still doing quite well.

Let me get back to Mboge. Mboge is a rare egg in that he attended High School in the states for four years and returned to the Gambia and has been unable to return. Unlike many, he has the footwork and style of a US player. Now, he still needs polish and to establish a true postion for himself. But, he has enough talent now that can make him a productive college player. His age will dictate D2 or NAIA as he is 23 right now. He is 6'6'' , 205 lbs, very good vertical, high level athlete type. Can put the ball on the ground and get to the basket. Shows proficiency with the left hand shooting but needs work on his weak hand dribble. Shooting form needs work, but he can be effective at the mid-range level. Would be an ideal small four because of his frame and explosive leap but has some three ability.
