Assem Marei
medi Bayreuth (BBL) strengthened their roster with addition of 24-year old Egyptian ex-international forward Assem Marei (206-113kg-92, college: Minn.St.-Mankato). Marei managed to play in three leagues last year. He played most recently at BC Siauliai in Lithuanian LKL league. In 37 games he recorded 12.1ppg, 7.5rpg, 1.2apg and 1.1spg. Great season indeed as he was voted to Eurobasket.com Lithuanian LKL All-Imports Team. He also played 6 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he averaged 12.5ppg, 10.8rpg and 1.7apg. Marei also played 8 games in Baltic League where he averaged 12.3ppg, 7.6rpg (#2 in the league), 1.0apg, 1.0spg and 1.1bpg. He won Baltic League championship title.
Marei was also a member of Egyptian international program for some years. He played for Egyptian Senior National Team between 2011 and 2015 and previously for U19 National Team back in 2011. Marei represented Egypt at the Afrobasket Championships in Rades (Tunisia) last year. His stats at that event were 7 games: 10.1ppg, Reb-5 (8.4rpg), 2.6apg, FGP: 44.1%, FT: 47.5%.
Marei has played also professionally in Egypt (Zamalek).
He attended Minnesota State University Mankato until 2015 and it will be his second season as a professional player.
The scouts decsribe him following way: A very promising inside player, that coul be very successful even at NCAA level. Has size, talent and personality, he's very effective around the basket.

Al Ahly deny Sporting sixth straight Egypt Cup - 1 month ago
In what should be considered an upset, Al-Ahly won their ninth Egypt Cup while also denying Sporting their sixth straight title in the competition. Both teams fought hard to win the title and coincidentally had the identical scoreline in the semi-finals.
