Egyptian basketball federation has confirmed signing with former Spanish coach Juan Antonio Orenga , who was the head coach of Spain at 2014 FIBA World Championship and won the bronze medal at 2013 European Championship.

What a big catch for the federation, who hired one of the best coaches in the history of the African and Arab countries.

The former Real Madrid player isn't the type of coach who has big experience working with clubs but his main success was with junior and youth Spanish national teams were he succeeded in winning various medals including U20 European championship title in 2011 which lead him to coach his country's national team in 2012.

The reason why Orenga will succeed with Egypt is that his experience and point of strength is mainly in working with young players and developing their game which exactly fits with our plans not only with Egypt's U19 team which will play in next year World Championship in Cairo but also for the main team who is still in the building process.

I must congratulate the federation for taking such big step. They are getting the best benefit from hosting U19 World Championship. Early this year there weren't plans for hiring a new coach till a new federation is elected after the Olympic games but hosting U19 World Championship and poor results of the team in Germany early this month have drove the federation to take such important step.

Al Gezira Cairo club had succeded to ink internationl Tunisian center Hamdy Braa. Hamdy Braa had played two years ago in the Egyptian Superleague with sporting club and helped them to win several titles. Al Gezira Cairo also succeded to strengthen their rosters by Ahly and Etihad previous guard Mohand El Sabbagh. BAHRAIN bowed to Egypt 54-80 last night in their second game in the inaugural Bahrain International Basketball Championship, being played at Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam.
