Eurobasket had an interview with Egyptian team star and best center in Africa Assem Marei were he speaks about the Egyptian national team, his performance with Minnesota Mankato and his future after finishing college basketball in the US:

1. Egyptian team and its spectators have missed you during world cup, please update us about your knee injury status?

I'm doing a lot better I just needed to give my knee sometime off and stay off it.

2. How did you see the performance of the Egyptian team in Spain?

I thought it could have been better but we are still really young and will get up in upcoming events in future. It's good to have high skilled players that already played at a level like that.

3. The level of your game allows you to play easily in NCAA's first division which gives you much more chances in NBA draft, why do you still compete in NCAA2?

This is only because of NCAA rules as my legibility clock started once I had graduated from high school but hopefully I still have a big chance to make it to the NBA

4. During last season you averaged your highest stats in your career, could you tell us more about your last season with Minnesota?

last year was great I worked on my body more to get bigger and quicker and worked on my ball handling as well

5. Can you describe to us the major differences between training in Egypt and in the US?

It more organized and planned out but that's it

6. How do you see the atmosphere inside national team training camps? How do you miss it?

I do miss it a lot we are like a family and its really friendly but sometimes it gets bad depending on coach Amr's moods lol.

7. What have you learned most from coach Amr Abu El Kheir?

I learned to patient and to get out of my comfort zone is the only way t get better and do stuff your not used to on the court.

8. What would you say to Wael Badr and Rami Gunaidy who decided to retire from national team?

I learned a lot from them and respect them a lot and the will be missed.

9. When you would be graduated from Minnesota university and where do you plan to play afterwards?

I want to tryout for the NBA, and European leagues would be great too.

10. It's nearly one year before the next African Championship, How do you see our chances in winning it?, and the most important what is missing the team so we can qualify to the Olympics?

We are more respected now which puts more responsibility on our end.

11. Finally how do you see the future of Egyptian basketball?

It's getting a lot better in the next couple of years but we still got a lot to do we need to have a plan for the next five years with goals set.
