Republic of Congo - Mali 87:77

Republic of Congo registered the first win at the African Championship. They held off Mali in Group D. Giovan Oniangue (196-F-91) stepped up with 31 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists to pace the winners. Mali slipped at 0-3 record at the bottom of the standings.
Republic of Congo dropped 24 points in the opening quarter and gained a 6-point lead after ten minutes. Mali adjusted defensively in the second frame. They held the Congolese team to just 10 points in the quarter and recorded a 37:34 halftime lead. Republic of Congo exploded with 29 points in the third term and recorded an 8-point advantage at the final break. Republic of Congo stayed red hot offensively in the fourth frame. They unloaded 24 points and registered the initial win at the tournament. Jean-Felix Moupegnou (201-F-82, college: Alabama) netted 17 points, while Romaric Kondzy (80) added 12 points for the winners. Modibo Niakate (185-G-81, agency: Fusion Sports, college: Cleveland St.) responded with 22 points and 7 boards for Mali. Ibrahima Haidara (92) had 19 points and 10 boards in the loss.

Camille Eleka joins Berck - 4 days ago
Berck/Rang du Fliers (NM2) agreed terms with 29-year old naturalized Congolese swingman Camille Eleka (196-88). He has played for the last three seasons at Caen Basket Calvados in the NM1, but left the team in Nov.'16. NM1 was a little too high level for him, where in 6 games he had just 1.3ppg last season. Orleans sign Loic Akono - 11 days ago
Entente Orleans 45 (ProA) signed 30-year old naturalized Congolese point guard Loic Akono (176-87). He has played for the last two seasons at Provence Basket in the ProB. In 28 games he had 3.5ppg, 1.2rpg and 1.6apg last season. The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others Akono won French ProB championship title in 2011 and 2014. Earvine Bassoumba joins Rouen - 14 days ago
SPO Rouen Basket (ProB) agreed terms with 21-year old Congolese forward Earvine Bassoumba (202-96). He has played for the last four seasons at Le Mans Sarthe Basket in the ProA. ProA was a little too high level for him, where in only one game he did not score anything and had only 1 rebound and 1 block. ProB will be definitely a better match and he can see more playing time.
