Nigeria clinched the second straight win at the African Championship. They knocked down Republic of Congo in Abidjan to stay on top of Group D. Ike Diogu (204-F/C-83, college: Arizona St.) posted 20 points and 12 rebounds to lead the winners.
Nigeria unleashed 28 points in the opening quarter and grabbed a 10-point lead. Republic of Congo struggled to get any near their opponents in the second frame. Nigeria eased to a 53:32 halftime lead. Republic of Congo finally picked up the right rhythm in the third term. They dropped 26 points in the third term and narrowed the margin. But Nigeria quickly bounced back in the fourth period and sealed a comfortable victory at the end. Alade Aminu (210-C-87, college: Georgia Tech) finished with game-high 23 points and 9 rebounds, while Al-Farouq Aminu (206-F-90, college: Wake Forest) added 15 points for the winners. Giovan Oniangue (196-F-91) answered with 19 points for Republic of Congo. Bertrand Boukinda (F-81) and Kris Morlende (182-PG-79) had 14 points each in the defeat.
