James Mays
Shaanxi Wolves (NBL) agreed terms with 30-year old Central African ex-international power forward James Mays (206-104kg-86, college: Clemson). It is actually his comeback to Xian as he played here before. Mays moved there from Al Shabab in UAE D1 league where he started the season. He helped them to win the league title. The last summer Mays played at Shaanxi. In 5 NBL games he had very impressive stats: 29.2ppg, 15.0rpg, 1.0apg, 2.2spg and 1.2bpg. The last (2015) season he played at Enel Brindisi (Serie A) in Italian league. In 30 games he recorded 13.3ppg and 9.2rpg. He contributed to his team making it to the Italian Cup Semifinals. Quite impressive season as he was named to Eurobasket.com All-Italian SerieA Honorable Mention. Mays also played 10 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he recorded 12.1ppg and 6.6rpg (#3 in the league).
In 2008 he was drafted by Colorado 14ers (D-League) as #2 pick overall.
Mays attended Clemson University and it will be his eighth season in pro basketball.
The list of the past achievements is quite long as among others he was voted Asia-Basket.com All-PBA Commissioner's Cup Defensive Player of the Year in 2014. Strangely Mays also played for Central African National Team in 2013. He represented Central Africa at the Arab Club Championships Quarterfinals last year.
Mays is quite experienced player. He has played also professionally in Dominican Rep., Philippines (Purefoods Star Hotshots), Puerto Rico (Capitanes), Turkey (Oyak Renault and Mersin Buyuksehir Belediyesi), D-League (Sioux Falls Skyforce, Springfield A. and Maine Red Claws), NBA (Brooklyn Nets) and China (Beijing Ducks).
On Mays: Showed an improved ability to find open looks for teammates; one of the quickest post players in the conference and maybe in the entire country...has the ability to create crowd enthusiasm by turning in exciting plays...he's also a very good defender, sees well the court and passes the ball well.
