Cape Verdean Player Willing to Join Angolan Teams - Dec 27, 2015

The Best Scorer of the recently finished FIBA Clubs Cup in male basketball, the Cape Verdean Fidel Mendonca (191-F-84), has said to the press that he is willing to play in the Angolan first division championship. Speaking to the press after being elected Best Scorer of the competition, having also been include in the "Ideal Squad of the Tournament", Fidel Mondonca, who plays for Bairro of Cape Verde, said that he has not yet been approached by an Angolan team, but he manifested his willingness to join one. "I have always identified myself with the Angolan basketball since I was child, judging by the reports I used to listen to, and today I have the opportunity to be here, fortunately", stressed the Cape Verdean player.
The Best Scorer of the 2015 FIBA Clubs Cup, with 160 points, is also the best three-point scorer of the competition which took place in Luanda's Kilamba Pavilion. He then stressed that his team did fulfil with the objectives they had for the competition, which was to avoid the last position and make balanced games with any opponent, since it is the first time they participate in such competition. Fidel Mendonca was born in Cape Verde on 7 July 1984.

LEB Silver newcomer Electro Mercantil Plasencia landed 28-year old Cape Verdean center Michael Mendes (203-90). He played recently at CAB Madeira in Portuguese LPB league. The last season Mendes played at Sampaense (also in LPB) where in 26 games he averaged 9.2ppg and 7.0rpg. He represented Cape Verde at the Afrobasket Championships in Rades (Tunisia) three years ago. B.C. Martorell Solvay (LEB Silver) agreed terms with 23-year old American (has also Cape Verdean passport) guard Antonio DePina (193-95kg-95, college: Lincoln, PA). He supposed to play at Electrico FC in Portuguese LPB league, but left the team in Dec.'17. In 9 games he had 11.1ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.6apg and 1.6spg this season. Edy Tavares agreed terms with Real Madrid - 3 months ago
Real Madrid (Liga Endesa) strengthened their roster with addition of 25-year old naturalized Cape Verdean center Edy Tavares (220-118kg-92). He played recently at Raptors 905 Missisauga (NBA G League) in the U.S. In only one game he had 13 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks this season.
