Cape Verde hold Coaches Clinic - Dec 22, 2010

The Cape Verde Basketball Federation is rounding off the year with a basketball camp and coaching clinicn.

The events is scheduled to hold between December 17 and January 5, 2011.

The event tagged Cape Verde Elite Basketball Camp & Coaching Clinic will take place in the Cape Verde Island cities of Praia on December 17 23, Mendelo will have it share between December 27 30 activities marking the end of the calendar in the FIBA Africa Zone-2 nation will ends in Sal between January 3 5 2011.

The Elite Camp will have in attendance top and up-coming talents from across Africa while the Coaches Clinic will attract coaches from across the continent. The event is sanctioned sponsored by the Cape Verde Basketball Federation with supported from the Erie Community College Athletics Department, Samaritans Feet (a non profit organization) and Global Sports Advantage all from the United States of America.

Head Coach of the Cape Verde senior Men National team and Camp Director, Alex Nwora stated that the Camp and clinic being organized by the Cape Verde federation in conjunction with top player, Tony Lima, is designed to give coaches and players the opportunity to take their game to the next level by acquiring basic fundamentals that will enable them to compete effectively at all levels.

Coach Nwora, who is also Head Coach of Erie Community College, Buffalo, USA, added that all coaches in attendance at the clinic to be supervised by Claude Constantino, FIBA Africa instructor and President, FIBA Africa Coaches Committee will be updated with modern coaching techniques which will enhance their coaching skills for the next level.

Camp Coaches expected at the camp/ clinic includes; Abdou Ndiaye (Head Coach, Senegal National Team), Richard Jacobs, (Head Coach ABA Sharks, USA,), Darryl Jacobs, Head Coach Clark Atlanta University, USA), Godwin Owinje, President, Radars Hoops international, USA), Linzy Davis, Mount Zion Academy, USA and Col Sam Ahmedu (Rtd), Dodan Warriors, Nigeria and President, FIBA Africa Marketing Council, while Antonio Tavares assistant coach of Cape Verde completes the number.

Guests expected to grace the occasion include; Dr Alphose Bile, Secretary General, FIBA Africa, Rodrigo Mascarenhas (Benfica, Portugal), Marito Correira ( Primero, DAgosto, Angola), Jose Luis Almeida ( Cape Verde), Jose Almeida (AD Vagos), Portugal and Ivan Almeida ( Stone Hill, USA).
  



Cape Verde and Chad get second chance - 11 days ago
West African sides Chad and Cape Verde will have another shot at competing in the upcoming Africa Basketball Championship (AfroBasket) and 2019 World Cup qualifiers after both teams got selected to compete in a special tournament. Defending champion Cleveland Cavaliers inked 25-year old Spaniard-Cape Verdean center Edy Tavares (220-118kg-92). He started the season at Raptors 905 Missisauga. In 50 D-League games he averaged 10.5ppg, 7.9rpg, 1.5apg and 2.8bpg this season. A very good year in his career as he was selected to D-League All-Star Game. Ivan Almeida joins Cholet - 5 months ago
Cholet Basket (ProA) agreed terms with 27-year old Portuguese-Cape Verdean small forward Ivan Almeida (198-89, college: Stonehill). He will still stay in France where he played last season at Chorale de Roanne Basket in the ProB. In 34 games he had 14.8ppg, 5.4rpg, 2.6apg, 1.9spg (in top 4) and 1.1bpg.
