Angola celebrated the title at the 2009 Lusophony Games in Portugal. After beating the hosts in the semis Angolan team had little problems en route to the triumph. A Luis Magalhaes team overcame Cape Verde in the title decider. This marked the improvement for Angolan team as they finished in the second position during the first Lusophony Games in 2006.
Angola dominated from the start in this one. They outgunned their opponents 19:14 in the starting stanza. Angola fired 28 points in the second frame to ensure a 17-point lead at the interval. Cape Verde failed to change the complexion of the encounter after the long break. Angola thumped their counterparts in the third quarter to build a 27-point lead at the final break. They coasted to the win in the fourth quarter.
Carlos Morais (190-G-85) scored 19 points to lead the charge. Armando Costa (190-G-83) provided 18 points, while Domingos Bonifacio (189-G-84) finished with 13 points in the win. Jeff Xavier (185-G-85, agency: Bradley Sports Management, college: Manhattan) responded with 19 points for Cape Verde. Peter Cipriano (206-F-83, college: Southern) and Mario Correia (189-G-78, college: Bryant) had 10 points each in the loss.

Seven Stars grabbed a National League 2017 title. They overcame Academica 54-52 in a tough game. Tchesco Duarte was named MVP of the tournament. Rosariense finished on the third place. They edged Salgadium 61-50.   [read more]

Jeffrey Xavier (ex FC Porto) agreed terms with Quimper - 26 days ago
Quimper UJAP (ProB) strengthened their roster with addition of 32-year old American (has also Cape Verdean passport) point guard Jeffrey Xavier (189-85, college: Providence). He played most recently at FC Porto in Portuguese LPB league. Xavier managed to play in three leagues last year (!!!). In 29 LPB games he recorded 10.0ppg, 3.0rpg, 2.8apg and 1.3spg. Electrico FC lands Antonio DePina - 27 days ago
Electrico FC (LPB) landed 22-year old American (has also Cape Verdean passport) guard Antonio DePina (193-95kg-95). He just graduated from Lincoln University of Pennsylvania (NCAA2). In 13 games he averaged 3.3ppg and 1.2rpg last season. As mentioned above DePina is just out of the college and it will be his first season in pro basketball.
