Angola - Cape Verde 106:64

Angola celebrated the title at the 2009 Lusophony Games in Portugal. After beating the hosts in the semis Angolan team had little problems en route to the triumph. A Luis Magalhaes team overcame Cape Verde in the title decider. This marked the improvement for Angolan team as they finished in the second position during the first Lusophony Games in 2006.
Angola dominated from the start in this one. They outgunned their opponents 19:14 in the starting stanza. Angola fired 28 points in the second frame to ensure a 17-point lead at the interval. Cape Verde failed to change the complexion of the encounter after the long break. Angola thumped their counterparts in the third quarter to build a 27-point lead at the final break. They coasted to the win in the fourth quarter.
Carlos Morais (190-G-85) scored 19 points to lead the charge. Armando Costa (190-G-83) provided 18 points, while Domingos Bonifacio (189-G-84) finished with 13 points in the win. Jeff Xavier (185-G-85, agency: Bradley Sports Management, college: Manhattan) responded with 19 points for Cape Verde. Peter Cipriano (206-F-83, college: Southern) and Mario Correia (189-G-78, college: Bryant) had 10 points each in the loss.

Real Madrid (Liga Endesa) strengthened their roster with addition of 25-year old naturalized Cape Verdean center Edy Tavares (220-118kg-92). He played recently at Raptors 905 Missisauga (NBA G League) in the U.S. In only one game he had 13 points, 10 rebounds and 3 blocks this season. Tavares also spent pre-season at the Cavaliers in NBA earlier in the year. Three years ago he was drafted by Atlanta Hawks (NBA) in second round (43rd overall). Vitoria SC inks Elvis Evora - 2 months ago
Vitoria SC(LPB) signed experienced 39-year old Portuguese ex-international center Elvis Evora (205-115kg-78) from Oliveirense. In 38 LPB games he had 7.1ppg and 4.1rpg last season. He helped them to make it to the semifinals. A very impressive season as he was named to Eurobasket.com Portuguese League All-Domestic Players Team. Cleveland Cavaliers waived 25-year old Spaniard-Cape Verdean center Edy Tavares (220-118kg-92). The last season Tavares played at another team Raptors 905 where in 50 games he recorded 10.5ppg, 7.9rpg, 1.5apg and 2.8bpg. Great season indeed as he was awarded USBasket.com All-D-League Defensive Player of the Year and voted to 1st Team and to the All-Star Game.
