D.J. Strawberry
D.J. Strawberry
   #1. This week's number one is an international shooting guard D.J. Strawberry (196-85, college: Maryland, currently plays in Turkey). He led Besiktas to a victory against one of league's weakest teams Trabzonspor (0-1) 82-71 in the Turkish BSL in Sunday night's game. Strawberry recorded 12 points and added 6 assists in 29 minutes on the court. It was his first game for Besiktas this season. His team is placed first in the BSL. But this is still an early stage of the season and everything may happen. Strawberry has a dual citizenship: Cameroonian and American. He is currently a member of the Cameroonian senior national team.

   #2. Second place goes to an international power forward Kenny Kadji (211-88, college: Miami, FL, currently plays in Turkey). Kadji contributed to an easy victory against the 11th-ranked Darussafaka (0-1) 97-81 in the Turkish BSL last Sunday. He recorded 9 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was his first game for Tofas this season. His team is placed seventh in the BSL. But the season just started, so everything may happen. Kadji is in the roster of the Cameroonian senior national team.

   #3. The Cameroonian player who performed third best last week abroad was former international guard Gedeon Pitard (188-89, currently plays in France). He contributed to Chalons-Reims' victory against the league outsider Chalon/Saor (0-4) 103-97 in the French ProA on Saturday night. Pitard recorded 14 points, 3 assists and 4 steals in 26 minutes. Champagne Chalons-Reims Basket (2-2) is placed 13th in the ProA. But the season is still in it's first stage and everything can happen. It's Pitard's first year with the team. This season he averages: 7.8ppg, 1.8rpg, 1.8apg, 1.5spg, 2FGP: 64.3%, 3FGP: 33.3% and FT: 77.8% in four games he played so far. Pitard is another player who holds two passports: Cameroonian and French. Despite he played previously for the French U18 national team, Pitard played also for the Cameroonian national team in 2015.

   #4. Shooting guard Jeremy Nzeulie (188-91, currently plays in France) faced previously mentioned Gedeon Pitard in the French ProA last game. Nzeulie could not help Chalon/Saor (0-4) in their last game on Saturday. Despite his very good performance the bottom-ranked Chalon/Saor was defeated 103-97 on the road by the higher-ranked Chalons-Reims (#13). Nzeulie was the top scorer with 18 points. He also added 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Nzeulie's overall stats this season are: 9.8ppg, 3.3rpg and 4.8apg. He has both Cameroonian and French nationalities. Nzeulie used to play for the Cameroonian national team back in 2015.

Arsene Towa

   #5. An experienced former international forward Arsene Towa (193-81, currently plays in Finland) was not able to help Jarvenpaa in their game against Porvoon Tarmo (1-1) in the Finnish 1st Division (second division). He scored 6 points and grabbed 16 rebounds in 33 minutes. The ninth-placed Jarvenpaa (0-2) lost 69-80 on the opponent's court to the higher-ranked (#7) Porvoon_Tarmo in the Division A. Towa is one of the most experienced players in a team as it's his fourth year in Jarvenpaa's roster. Towa has individually a very good season with high stats. He averages: 15.5ppg, 18.0rpg, 3.0apg and 2.0spg in two games. Towa used to play for the Cameroonian national team six years ago.

   #6. Forward Harding NaNa (203-81, college: Delaware, currently plays in Denmark) contributed to an easy victory against the league outsider BMS Skovlunde (0-4) crushing them 108-85 in the Danish Ligaen in Wednesday night's game. He scored 8 points. Svendborg Rabbits (1-2) is placed sixth in the Ligaen. NaNa's overall stats this season are: 7.3ppg and 3.7rpg. He is a former international player as he played for the Cameroonian senior team two years ago.

   #7. Former international forward Michel Ipouck (200-86, currently plays in France) was not able to secure a victory for Aubenas (1-2) in their game against UB Chartres (2-1) in the French NM1 (third division). Ipouck scored 9 points, had 6 boards, passed 4 assists and added 3 steals. But Aubenas was edged 73-72 at home by the much higher-ranked UB Chartres (#7). Ipouck's overall stats this season are: 8.0ppg, 6.0rpg and 3.0apg. Despite he played previously for the French U20 national team, Ipouck is currently in the Cameroonian national team roster.


The list of other players, who all have Cameroonian passport but never been selected to any of Cameroonian national teams:

   #1. JP Tokoto (198-F-93, college: N.Carolina, currently plays in Australia) led Perth Wildcats to a victory against the closely-ranked Bullets (0-1) 96-86 in the Australian NBL in Saturday night's game. He recorded 16 points and grabbed 4 rebounds. It was his first game for Perth Wildcats this season; quite an impressive performance considering it's only Tokoto's third season in pro basketball. His team are placed third in the NBL. But there are still lots of games to play and it's a long way to go. Tokoto has a dual citizenship: Cameroonian and American.

   #2. Ralph Temgoua (194-G-87, college: St.Lawrence, currently plays in France) could not help SO Maritime Boulogne (1-2) in their last game. Despite his very good performance SO Maritime Boulogne lost 99-104 on the road to the lower-ranked (#11) La Charite. Temgoua scored 17 points in 25 minutes. Temgoua has individually a very good year with high stats. He averages: 17.7ppg, 2.7rpg, 4.0apg and 1.7spg in three games he played so far. Temgoua is another player who holds two passports: Cameroonian and French.

   #3. Experienced Danny Gibson (178-PG-84, college: S.Indiana, currently plays in France) contributed to a Limoges CSP Elite's victory against the 15th-ranked Paris-Levallois (1-3) 87-81 in the French ProA in Saturday night's game. He recorded 7 points and added 7 passes in 34 minutes. Limoges CSP Eliteis placed seventh in the ProA. It's Gibson's first season with the team. This year Gibson's overall stats are: 8.5ppg, 2.0rpg, 4.8apg and 1.5spg in four games. He has both American and Cameroonian nationalities.

   #4. Paul Biligha (200-C/F-90, agency: Players Group, currently plays in Italy) managed to help Umana Reyer Venezia to win against the closely-ranked Dolomiti En. TR (1-1) 79-78 in the Italian Serie A last Sunday. Biligha scored only 2 points. Umana Reyer Venezia (2-0) is placed fifth in the Serie A. It's Biligha's first season with the team. His overall stats this year are: 5.5ppg and 2.0rpg. Biligha also holds two passports: Cameroonian and Italian.

   #5. Johan Bitjaa Kody (207-C-93, agency: Interperformances, currently plays in Spain) was not able to help L'Hospitalet (0-0) in their game against Navarra (1-1) in the Spanish LEB Silver (third division). Bitjaa Kody scored 9 points and grabbed 6 rebounds in 20 minutes. But L'Hospitalet was crushed 110-78 in Pamplona by the lower-ranked (#11) Navarra. It's Bitjaa Kody's first season with the team. This year his overall stats are: 9.5ppg and 6.0rpg in two games.

   #6. Max Massing (203-F-93, agency: SportsVision-Service, currently plays in Germany) helped Muenster win their game against the ninth-ranked Ibbenbueren 100-89 in the German Regionalliga (fourth division) in Tuesday night's game. He scored 5 points and grabbed 5 rebounds in 17 minutes. This year Massing's overall stats are: 4.5ppg and 5.8rpg in four games. He has dual citizenship: Cameroonian and German.

We bring you last week's top performances from Cameroonians who are playing abroad and who all have had prior experience of national team duties at youth or senior level. Joel Embiid (213-C-94) could not help the Philadelphia 76ers (13-13) in their last game. Despite his very good performance the Philadelphia 76ers (13-13) were edged 107-104 on the road by the Los Angeles Lakers.    [read more]

Detroit Pistons cut 23-year old Cameroonian center Landry Nnoko (208-114kg-94, college: Clemson). The last season Nnoko played at VL Pesaro in Italian Serie A where in 30 games he averaged 6.4ppg and 7.1rpg. He has never been drafted by the NBA. Nnoko received ACC All-Defensive Team award in 2016 at his college time. Nnoko was a member of Cameroonian Senior National Team two years ago. He has played also professionally in .
