FIBA Africa Zone-3 Qualifier: Benin lost to Cote dIvoire 46-48 - Aug 16, 2010

The hope of Benin Republic of redeeming its image in the ongoing FIBA Africa Zone-3 Qualifiers was finally dashed Sunday night as the gave away an earlier lead to lose by 48-46 to Cote dIvoire in Day-5 of the elimination series.

Cote dIvoire had raced to a 11-07 points win in the first quarter but allowed the Benin side to fight back in the second quarter with a 13-08 points win to take a slim 20-19 points lead into the break.

Benin continue from where it left off at the resumption of play in the third quarter to post a 19-11 points to take a nine points advantage of 39-30 points going into the last quarter but Cote dIvoire fought back like a wounded Elephant in the fourth quarter with an 18-07 points win to end the game at 48-46 points for a 4-1 record.

Cote dIvoire Alpha Yaya Ouattara led his team with 14 points and 8 rebounds, Stephane Kokoun posted a double double of 10 points and 10 rebounds with Bohui Gbotto adding 10 points and 4 rebounds.

Benin youthful small forward Roland Akpatchi led the floor in scoring with 16 points, Ayouba Aboubakari contributed 10 points while Kader Yarou led other players from the board with 18 rebounds.
Cote dIvoire will the series with a game against Nigeria on Monday at 17H00 while Benin will take on host Togo at 19H00.

Benin Republic Champions ELAN Sportive- Port Novo cruised to their 2nd win at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 club championship taking place in Lome with a 55-41 points win over AS Nigelec of Niger. Le Mans keep Yarou for another season - 8 months ago
26-year old Beninese power forward Mouphtaou Yarou (204-116kg-90, college: Villanova). He has played there for the last two seasons. In 39 ProA games he averaged 9.6ppg and 10.7rpg last season. Yarou helped them to win the cup and make to league semifinals. He can count that season as a very successful as was selected to Eurobasket.com All-French ProA 2nd Team.
