FIBA Africa Zone-III Qualifiers: Cote dIvoire sees off Benin 81-57 - Aug 11, 2010

Cote dIvoire continue its search for a 2011 All Africa Games ticket on superb form Wednesday in Day-2 of the FIBA Africa Zone-III elimination series in Lome, Togo with a 81-57 points victory over Benin Republic.

Cote dIvoire win three of the four quarters leaving Benin to pick one with full offense and defense style of play which saw six of the Coaches Tea Olivier, Benga Lemou and Yapi Pepin side scoring double figures.

Cote dIvoire won the first, second and fourth quarters by 21-12, 23-12 and 17-16 leaving Benin to settle for a slim 21-20 points win in the third quarter for a cumulative score-line of 81-57 points the second victory of the second best team in FIBA Africa flagship championship The FIBA Africa Championship for Men.

Amara Kamate led the floor with 12 points and 6 rebounds, Abou Ben Fofana also recorded 12 points and 5 rebounds, the duo of Gomon Agole and Alassane Meite added 12 points each while the duo of Bohui Gbotto and Alpha Yaya Ouattara contributed 10 points each to put Cote dIvoire in clear lead in the four nation elimination.

Cote dIvoire will battle Nigeria in Day-3 of the elimination at 17H00 on Thursday while Benin tries its luck against host Togo at 19H00.

Benin Republic Champions ELAN Sportive- Port Novo cruised to their 2nd win at the FIBA Africa Zone 3 club championship taking place in Lome with a 55-41 points win over AS Nigelec of Niger. The Niger Republic side started out with a bang scoring the first 2 baskets for a 4-0 lead but lost Beninoise champions replied with a force that couldn't be stopped for the remainder of the 40 minutes of basketball action. Le Mans keep Yarou for another season - 11 months ago
Le Mans Sarthe Basket (ProA) re-signed 26-year old Beninese power forward Mouphtaou Yarou (204-116kg-90, college: Villanova). He has played there for the last two seasons. In 39 ProA games he averaged 9.6ppg and 10.7rpg last season. Yarou helped them to win the cup and make to league semifinals. He can count that season as a very successful as was selected to Eurobasket.com All-French ProA 2nd Team. Yarou also played 9 games in Eurocup where he had 10.4ppg and 9.0rpg (#3 in the league).
