The national women's basketball coach Jaime Covilha resigned Monday after failure of the African Cup of Nations (AFROBASQUET 2017) in Bamako, Mali. The decision was made by the coach himself after failing to meet the objectives set by the Angolan Federation's governing body (FAB), which was to regain the title lost to Senegal in 2015. The "national team' that finished in the sixth position had an unbeaten run in the group stage and was prevented from reaching the semi-finals after conceding defeat to the Mozambicans in the quarterfinals. Italee Lucas (175-SG-89, college: N.Carolina) was voted the best point guard of the competition, while the national team received the fair-play award. Nigeria won the title after defeating Senegal national team in the final game while Mali took third place.
