Luanda-based 1 de Agosto thrashed central Cuanza Sul province's Benfica do Sumbe 102-44 on Thursday in Lubango, southern Huila province, in a group A's first round match of the national Under-18 basketball championship. The Luanda team entered the match with a 21 points advantage (31-10), expanding the score to 56-21 at the end of the second quarter of the game. The match resumed with Benfica do Sumbe taking the upper hand (9-0) in the first two minutes, before the opponents used their full experience to reverse the score (18-14). In the last quarter, 1 de Agosto won by 28-9, setting the final score to 102-44. 1 de Agosto's Gelson Bango was the best scorer of the match with 17 points.
In another match of the competition, Casa Pessoal do Porto do Lobito defeated Heja Sport Clube do Lubango by 57-41. 1 de Maio de Benguela rested. In group B, Luanda's Vila Clotilde beat Cuanza Sul-based Recreativo do Libolo by 84-67, while Sporting de Benguela defeated Desportivo da Huila (68-52). ASA rested.
