BWB Africa camp ends on high note in Angola - Sep 5, 2016

The 2016 Basketball without Borders organized by the National Basketball Association (NBA) Africa ended at the weekend in Luanda, Angola with success stories from the camp.

The eventful three days camp saw some of the most talented young boys and girls who were most outstanding during the camp with Boys and Girls All-Star Games.

Both games provided some unforgettable moments with the most outstanding players of the camp taking home top awards in various categories.

SAA High Flyer was Jonathan Tchamwa Tchatchoua of Cameroon, Helmarc Three-Point Champions were Maria Macedo of Angola (girls) and Watida Mukulula of Zimbabwe (boys), Nike All-Star Game Most Valuable Players were Geovana Dongua of Angola (girls) and Cheikh Faye of Senegal with Nike Camp Most Valuable Player awards going to Chanaya Pinto of Mozambique (girls) and Patrick Mwamba of DRC (boys).

The camp was a special moment for Orlando Magic center Bismack Biyombo who applauded all, but especially the young Patrick Mwamba who raised the Nike Camp MVP Trophy.

'It was awesome to see one of the kids from my camp to be the MVP here. I am really thankful that we got to do it here in Angola and that different people got exposed to what the NBA is doing in Africa,' said Biyombo.

'It was a blessing to be a part of the 2016 BWB, great to see a lot of kids improve and hopefully a lot of kids will be inspired from this moment on.

Halftime provided some unforgettable moments as well with basketball legends, including former and present Angola national team stars Victor Muzadi, Carlos Morais and Joaquim Gomes taking to the court in an exhibition game.

'This is the very first time Basketball without Borders came to Angola and I think it was about time because we have been so successful in Africa,' said Gomes. 'As you can tell, everybody was excited, everybody was happy. We got an opportunity to exchange some experience with NBA players and I am just proud. Basketball is a way of life in Angola, the former African best player concluded.

The 14th edition of the Basketball without Borders Africa camp may be in history books now, but the great memories and shared moments will stay with everyone involved for a long time.

Libolo edge Petroleos to take 2-0 lead in title series - 2 days ago
Libolo celebrated the second straight victory in the BIC Basket Finals. They rallied past Petroleos 87:85 to take 2-0 lead. Milton Barros (184-PG-84) stepped up with 20 points to pace the winners. Petroleos looked better in the first half. They grabbed a 50:42 halftime lead. But Libolo bounced back in the second part of the game. They used a 24:15 rally in the fourth quarter to snatch a valuable victory. Leonel Paulo(197-F-89) responded with 26 points for Petroleos.   [read more]

Recreativo do Libolo post narrow win at the Dream Space in Luanda - 4 days ago
Recreativo do Libolo overcame Petro de Luanda in the Finals opener. They grabbed a 97-96 win at the Dream Space in Luanda. Libolo had a 49-43 halftime advantage and managed to save a narrow victory. Andre Harris (201-PF-85, college: Fair Dickinson) top-scored for the winners with 26 points and Roberto Fortes (193-G-84, college: Illinois St.) notched 19. Libolo beat Interclube (82-71) in Angola cup final - 7 days ago
After having been at a disadvantage for most of the entire match, Recreativo do Libolo won the Angolan Cup in men's senior basketball, by beating Interclube 82-71. In the match played in the Multipurpose Pavilion in Luanda, in the first half, Interclube were winning the game by 44-41, but in the final phase of the match the greatest experience of Libolo stood out.
