Petro Luanda clinch Angolan League title - May 21, 2011

Petro Luanda celebrated their 11th Angolan League title. They defeated Interclube 89:78 to claim the top position. Roderick Nealy (198-F-80, college: Houston Baptist) stepped up with 26 points to pace the charge. Interclube dominated in the first half. They established a 52:44 halftime lead. But Petro Luanda turned things around in the third frame. They erupted for 32 points to build a 12-point cushion. Petro Luanda stayed in front throughout the fourth quarter and clinched the decisive win at the end. Cedric Isom (188-G-84, college: E.Texas Baptist) provided 15 points, while Carlos Morais (190-G-85) finished with 13 in the victory. Eduardo Mingas (200-F-79) answered with 23 points for Interclube. Euclides Camacho (192-F-80) stepped up with 18 points in the loss.
In the meantime Libolo claimed a 95:94 win over 1 De Agosto. Milton Barros (184-G-84) erupted for 30 points to lead Libolo. Olimpio Cipriano (194-F-82) contributed 19 points for the winners as they came back from a 9-point deficit at the final break to eke out victory at the end. Joaquim Gomes (200-C/F-80, college: Valparaiso) answered with 18 points for 1 De Agosto. Armando Costa (192-G-83) accounted for 12 points in defeat.


Libolo won Angola Cup 2011 - Apr 25, 2011 

Libolo won Angola Cup after to win the series on the best of 3 83 x 68 (21 x 20; 42 x 38)

On the first half the game was very balance and the half Libolo was leading by 4pt. On the 3rd quarter lead changes several times, however Petro with a mutch younger team lost 3 possessions of ball on the 4th quarter and Libolo profit from that for to build a confortable lead. Petro had try to come back but they werent able to do it and Libolo won the Angola for the second time on their history.

1 De Agosto added another trophy to their collection. They rallied past Porto to claim Compal SuperCup trophy. Felizardo Ambrosio (201-F-87) was the MVP of the tournament as he came up with another sizzling performance. The forward tallied 31 points and 12 rebounds to lead 1 De Agosto to the victory.
Porto led by one 26:25 after a close first term. But 1 De Agosto stunned the Dragons with a 31:12 rally in the second quarter. They recorded a 56:38 lead at the interval. Porto tried to get back into the game. They outscored the Angolan side to cut the deficit to 11 points at the final break. But even 26 points from the Portuguese team did not rescue them from falling at the end. Joaquim Gomes (200-C/F-80, college: Valparaiso) scored 22 points and collected 14 rebounds for 1 De Agosto. Carlos Almeida (193-G/F-76) added 14 points in the victory. Gregory Stempin (203-F-79, agency: Duran International, college: Toledo) answered with 25 points for the Dragons. Nuno Marcal (205-F-75) finished with 18 points in defeat.

Season begins in Angola - Nov 26, 2010

Basketball season begun in Angola with Desportivo 1. De Agosto Luanda beating Recreativo's Libolo in a Supercup match played in Luanda.
The Desportivo 1. De Agosto Luanda was too strong in the first half, and at half-time they were ahead by 41-16. It was really surprising to see how the militares were so strong and quick. When anybody expected any animation in the second half, Libolo did a spectacular comeback and finished the third quarter with 57-46 in the scoreboard. But then, Desportivo 1. De Agosto Luanda showed their superiority and kept the advantage to finish the game winning by 77-66.
The best scorers were Felizardo Ambrosio (201-F-87) (17 points) and Karlton Mims (189-G-80, college: Washburn) (10 points) in the winner team, and Leonel Paulo (198-C-89) (12 points) in the Libolo team.
