Recreativo Do Libolo Win Basketball Championship - May 23, 2012

Luanda Recreativo do Libolo won the national senior males basketball championship, after beating 1 de Agosto by 91-82 at Luanda's Cidadela pavilion, in the last round of the competition.

In the first half, Recreativo do Libolo were already winning the game by 43-38.

This is the first time that Recreativo do Libolo conquer this title, thus overthrowing Petro de Luanda.

1 de Agosto clinch Angola Cup in the country. The team overcame Interclube 80:77 in Game 2 to win both games.
It was a tough start for both teams and the board showed 15:13 after the first period for the winners. They increased the lead to 10 points when they enjoyed 35:25 advantage. Interclube climbed back and reduced to 51:47 dominating the court at that time. 1 de Agosto however stayed cool and won the game.
Reggie Moore (203-PF-81, college: ORU) was named MVP of the Finals. He poured in 24 points to bring his side the trophy. Domingos Bonifacio netted 13 and Felizardo Ambrosio (201-F-87) delivered 12. Carlos Almeida scored 11, while Mario Correia (189-G-78, college: Bryant) netted 8. Milton Barros (184-G-84) replied with 22 points in the losing effort, while Eduardo Mingas (200-F-79), Jorge Tati and Francisco Machado (205-F/C-81) had 12 apiece. Adilson Ramos followed them with 9 points.

Petro Luanda celebrated the victory in the third edition of Compal SuperCup. They shot down Porto Ferpinta in the title game tonight. Carlos Morais (190-G-85) topscored for the winners with 16 points, 5 assists, 4 boards and 4 steals. Roderick Nealy (198-F-80, college: Houston Baptist) added 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Angolan outfit. Nealy was named the tournaments MVP.
The Dragons got to a 9:2 start to the game. They managed to ensure a 22:16 lead after ten minutes. However Petro Luanda ignited a 12:0 run in the second frame that put them in charge. The Angolan team secured a 28:25 lead. They rallied to a 39:29 halftime advantage. Petro Luanda stayed well in control of their fate in the second half. They entered the final term up by 12 points and gave little chance for the Portuguese team to succeed. Braulio Morais finished with 13 points for the winners. Robert Johnson (203-C/F-81, college: Oregon) answered with 16 points and 9 rebounds for the Dragons. Miguel Miranda (205-F-78) had 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 steals in the loss.
