Algeria confirm final roster for U18 Championship in Rwanda - Jul 19, 2016

With just 10 days to the start of the 2016 FIBA Africa U18 Championship, Algeria's final roster has been confirmed. This year's 12-team FIBA Africa's youth flagship event will run from 22-31 July in Kigali, Rwanda. Head coach Mohamed Abidat has selected an athletic team with the average height of 1.92m. The play-caller has also included three players, who helped the North Africans claim a Third-Place at last year's FIBA Africa U16 Championship in Bamako, Mali. While 2.06m center Abderrahmane Hailouf is set to take care of the boards, Mostefa Braik - a 17-year-old shooting guard, who led Algeria in Bamako with a team-high 15 points - is one of the men that head coach Abidat looks to propelling the team's offense in Kigali. Joining Braik are two revelations from the U16 team Islam Nizar Taleb and Mohamed Akram Sahbi - the former is currently looking to pursue his High-School career in the US. So far eleven national teams have qualified for the 2016 Rwanda showdown. One more team is expected to be awarded a wildcard to complete the 12-team event, which includes Algeria, Angola, Benin, Cote d'Ivoire, DR Congo, Egypt, Mali, hosts Rwanda, Tunisia,Uganda, and Zimbabwe.

Mekdad comes back to Le Havre - 9 days ago
STB Le Havre (ProB) added to their roster 31-year old Algerian international point guard Samir Mekdad (191-86). It is actually his comeback to STB Le Havre as he has played here before. Mekdad played last season at ALM Evreux Basket in the ProB. In 37 games he recorded 6.6ppg, 2.8rpg and 1.6apg. The previous (15-16) season Mekdad played at Berck/Rang du Fliers (NM1) where in 32 games he averaged 11.1ppg, 3.8rpg, 3.2apg and 1.2spg. Sixth-ranked Skikda (3-6) made lots of trouble for first ranked CRB Dar El-B. (8-1) in El-Beida on Tuesday. CRB Dar El-B. managed to secure only three-point victory 75-72. The fans could enjoy quite many interesting games in the last round. The round ended with defeat of the leader, favorites losing the games and games ending by tiny margin.
