Today is the first game of a best of three that pits the first seeded GSP versus the second seeded Constantine. Today's game will be held in Constantine with next two games if necessary on GSP's home turf of Algiers. This game features 20 current or former national team players and both teams are two deep at every position. In their only meeting this season GSP won a closely contested match on neutral court. That game came down to final minutes where GSP point guard Mounir Benzegala made some keys plays down the stretch to secure a 75-70 victory over Constantine.
While both teams feature balance scoring there are some featured matchups that may swing the balance to one team or the other. One of the key match ups will be between the before mentioned Benzegala and Halim Kaouane point guard for Constantine. Kaouane is the engine for Constantines fast break attack and many times as he goes so goes the team. Another key will be the inside play of both teams. Each team features one of best stretch power forwards in the league. GSP has national team veteran Nabil Saidi who can shoot the "3" and still shows the athleticism to be a versatile defender. While on the other side Constantine features Mohamed Saadallah who, with his European styled game, can be one of the most effective scorers in the league.
The last key matchup will be played in the post. Constantine has two good centers with contrasting styles of play. Tarrik Oukid is a veteran post player which very good touch from the perimeter and a variety of post moves while Theo Little, an American Import, plays a physical style that is complimented with a high basketball IQ and the ability to score at the rim. While GSP likes to play small at times they do have the biggest and what may be the most important player of the finals. Seddik Touati is a legit 7 footer with good hands and a soft touch. If he can make an impact on these games it may give GSP the slight edge to bring home the championship.
No matter what the outcome this is matchup that the Algerian basketball world has been waiting for so lets just hope the games live up to the hype.
