Nigeria celebrate title in Mali - Aug 27, 2017

Senegal - Nigeria 48-65
Nigeria clinched the title in Mali. They beat Senegal to capture the first AfroBasket Gold since 2003. Evelyn Akhator (190-F-95, college: Kentucky) posted 13 points and 7 rebounds to lead the champions. Senegal recorded an 18:12 lead after ten minutes. Nigeria bounced back in the second term. They went on a 21:10 run to accumulate a 33:28 halftime lead. Nigeria held Senegal to just 7 points in the third term to open a 13-point advantage at the final intermission. Nigeria followed with a 17:13 run in the fourth quarter to celebrate the trophy. Adaora Elonu (185-F-90, college: Texas A&M, agency: ProDep Management) tossed in 12 points for Nigeria. Astou Traore (182-F/C-81, agency: ProDep Management) answered with 17 points and 6 rebounds for Senegal.
3-4 Place
Mozambique - Mali 52-75
Mali stepped onto the pedestal at the home championship. They beat Mozambique in the consolation final to conquer Bronze medals. Mali posted a 21:12 lead after ten minutes. Mozambique cut the distance at 2-point mark at the interval. But Mali fueled a strong 41:20 run in the second half to ease to the victory. Nassira Traore (181-F-91) had 19 points for the hosts. Meiya Tirera (186-F/C-86, agency: ProDep Management) netted 15 points, grabbed 8 rebounds and issued 4 assists in the victory. Leia Dongue (185-F/C-91) answered with 10 points for Mozambique.

5-6 Place
Angola - Ivory Coast 56-61
Ivory Coast recorded victory in the final day of the championship. They beat Angola to end up in the fifth position. Kani Kouyate (177-F-90) posted 15 points, 7 rebounds and 4 assists in the win. Ivory Coast claimed a 32:21 halftime lead. Angola narrowed the distance in the second half but could not avert the loss. Djefarina Diawara (179-F-94) and Minata Fofana (190-C-86) had 9 points each in the victory. Ndiendula Filipe tossed in 13 points and grabbed 10 rebounds for Angola.

7-8 Place
Cameroon - Egypt 83-86
Egypt rallied past Cameroon to ensure the seventh overall position in Mali. Hala Elshaarawy (181-F/G-93) and Meral Abdelgawad (181-F-98) accounted for 16 points each in the win. Egypt went on a 28:11 run to open the game. Cameroon pulled within 6 points at halftime. Egypt extended the gap back to double digits in the third quarter and never looked back en route to the victory. Mai Helwa (F-89) had 15 points and 10 rebounds for Egypt. Ramses Lonlack-Nimpa (172-SG-89, college: Memphis) had 22 points, 8 assists and 5 rebounds for Cameroon.
