El-Mekawi & Gendy shines to lead Egypt past Saudi - Jul 12, 2015

Egypt totally took control of the second half, found their rhythm to beat Saudi 59 - 45 after a poor display in the first 2 quarters scoring only 21 points.

Amr El-Gendy played a solid second half, gave the team a much needed spark with some nice penetrations to the paint and key passes. He's arguably the most ready Small Forward in the selected roster.

El-Mekawi who appeared only in the first half looked very confident on the offensive end. Can score with his back to the basket and went to the foul line a couple of times. He has developed a lot his 3 point shooting which is an important factor to spread the floor well and create space for team star Assem Marei to score in the paint.

It seems that Moataz Okasha has good chances to make the final team roster, had some nice passes during the game and would be a reliable back up point guard.

Ehab Amin took part for the first time this season with the team. No doubt he's our best point guard penetrating to the paint; he knows well how to use his size and speed. Actually the most talented PG in Egypt now and well deserved to make the final roster but the question is can he play heavy minutes and resist the real pressure he would face at the coming African championship?

Coach Ahmed Marei started the game with Bakersfield Center Aly Ahmed who is really very strong with high strength but still lacks chemistry with his teammates and can't be judged yet.

The team has benefited a lot on the defensive end by throwing bigger sized players like forward Ahmed Mohieb on the Saudi point guard which lead to several turnovers on the opponent team.

Egypt is still camping in Alexandria expected to play Saudi once again before flying to Sharm El-Sheikh for the Arab championship.
