According to Fox Sports and Courier-Journal, forward Anas Mahmoud has rejected joining Egypt and decided to travel with his team Louisville to Puerto Rico from the 10th to the 17th of August.

Anas has twisted his knee this week, had surgery at the Jewish hospital today and would be out between 4 to 6 weeks.

This means he would return back by maximum mid July, approximately 1 complete month before the African Championship starts which is more than enough time.

One of the main reasons for the rejection is that Anas is targeting to gain more weight in order to reach 100 kg or more before the coming season starts.

The Egyptian Basketball federation has threatened to hammer any player that quits the national team with heavy sanctions.

Egypt has selected Anas Mahmoud in 2013 African championship a head of other more experienced players but when he matured and became a better player he refused joining the Egyptian team.
